A number of the South Africa's leading supermarket chains said they will cooperate with the Competition Commission as it investigates possible price fixing among retailers.
Pick n Pay, Shoprite Checkers, Woolworths and Spar are among retailers suspected of unnecessarily increasing their food prices.
One of the other areas of concern is insufficient retail competition in certain shopping centres.
Pick n Pay has reacted to news saying it has consistently fought against anti-competitive practices and would fully comply with the commission while Spar has also spoken out saying it too has nothing to hide.
The commission launched the probe after concerns were raised by various parties and the public.
