document.write("My son recently needed a bank guaranteed cheque for payment from his account with ABSA. They wanted to charge R14000+ - yes fourteen thousand for a bank guaranteed cheque!!!!!! No wonder there is an enquiry into their ridiculous charges! We need to stand up against this kind of extortion.. graeme hill");

document.write("Bank charges are unbelievably high and changing accounts is a schlep so they continue to rip us off.<br />Despite us doing the capturing and processing on line there are still exhorbitant charges for transactions.<br />Interest margins are unreasonably high in this country too.<br />Overdraft management charges are now imposed and when doing daily cash managment on my group of accounts - a few times a day - we get charged on being overdrawn but my bank processes deposits until 19h00 and payments until midnight so occasionally one gets caught with late debits. Bang penalties.<br />Then there is the slush fund that they capitalise on when they debit the payer and credit the payee a day or two later. Overnight slush fund.<br />Recently I made a transfer on a weekend via internet banking but was told that it did not reflect because the banks are closed over weekends! Internet banking showed that it had been processed despite the fancy managers being fast asleep or swanning with their 6 and 7 digit salaries.<br />Then there is the fact that bank statements for the month end are received on the 15th of the next month!<br />Relationships - only the big corporates may enjoy service too.<br />I guess it is time to vote with our feet!. document.write("I have to point out that it is not that difficult to change banks and if you are paying more than R200 pm you should should seriously look into it.  I had a Nedbank chq account and was paying about R375 pm (and this was 5 years ago!).   I have now changed to Std Bank at R100 a month and I am much happier with their internet banking and service.  I suggest people make the move to cheaper banks instead of staying with the expensive bank and complaining.  The best thing you can do is take your business AWAY from the bank charging too much.  The more people that leave the more likely they are to reduce their charges to keep the customers they have.. KW");

The majority of people who bank at these institutions can only dream of earning thi sort of money in a lottery. To this is taking care of peoples money like trustees of retirement funds.
