Banks = faceless monster
"); document.write("Due to an act of fraud in connection with an investment my wife had made, we had to sell home, vehicles and anything else we could just to survive and pay off as much of our liabilities as we could. The court case is in its second year. We tried a debt counsellor (this was in the early stages) and after 4 mths we were nowhere. We approached an attorney. Credit providers, especially, banks would not acknowledge or accept our offers. Eventually, our attorney by sheer determination, forced the credit providers and the banks to accept our deal since they found that there was nothing of value they could take from us. We pay off our debt, over a longer period, clear our record eventually, and get to live very conservatively. Never sign a deal with a bank or credit provider unless you have a good attorney to advise you. I have no faith in any bank and refuse to live on credit, no matter how often I am offered credit, even in my present financial situation, which I find astonishing.. citizen"); document.write("
Banks definitely at fault
"); document.write("While the NCA was being implemented, I was bombarded by ABSA, imploring me to increase my credit limit. I refused, because I don't go into debt and pay off my credit card in full every month, even if I have to temporarily take a bit out of my bond excess (which I then pay back). Truly, the banks are only concerned about their bottom line - how much they themselves can make - not the real interests of their customers. They are very much to blame for people's misfortunes at the moment.. buzz"); document.write("
Beware of friendly phone calls from banks.
"); document.write("Beware of the friendly call from the bank trying to sell you a policy or increase your credit limit, everything sounds so good. Every excuse you make not to get involved any deeper the person has 10 answers for you.But the day that you default they come on top of you like a ton of bricks.They will phone you on your cell phone everyday no matter what and then they are just plain rude.It is time that something is done about these thugs. . Debt Review
"); document.write("As a registered Debt Counsellor the biggest hurdle we have faced is not the processes around debt review but the disinformation available to the public regarding the relief debt review offers. By the time a consumer gets to us, often they have been mislead by credit departments as to what debt review entails and more often than not, the situation has progressed beyond the point of a simple negotiated and informal restructuring with the consumers credit providers and into a case that requires court intervention.
My feeling is, if you as a consumer cannot cope, call the debt counsellor FIRST to get an accurate picture of what debt review is, then make an informed and balanced decision as to how to proceed.
The process of debt review is completely new and completely unique - nobody but a licensed and trained debt counsellor can advise you of the processes and you will be astounded at how much easier it is to sort out the mess the earlier you ask for help.
