Question:
How safe are my funds with Capitec Bank?

Answer:
Capitec Bank is doing all it can to protect its clients against fraudulent activity. It is currently rolling-out its new biometric system across the country. This four-tier security concept uses a card pin, photograph and fingerprint technology to ensure that only the account holder has access to their Global One Banking Facility. The use of biometrics by Capitec Bank's staff has reduced the possibility of fraud within branches as any transaction can be traced. Client biometrics has also eradicated the issue of identity theft in branches whereby criminals used fake IDs to obtain a card and new PIN number. Using a service such as SMS update, which sends a SMS to your mobile phone whenever there’s activity on your account, can also be useful for alerting you to unauthorised transactions.

Ensure that you are vigilant — be aware of the people around you and do not let your card out of your sight — when drawing cash or using your debit or credit cards. ATMs, shops and restaurants are hotspots for skimming — criminals copy the vital information from your card and use it to make a fake card to access your account. Also be on the lookout for phishing, official looking e-mails requesting personal information. If you receive one please alert your bank immediately.
