Clean break principle

There is little doubt that there is a lot to be said of a clean break principle when it comes to one?s wealth in the event of emigration and with the current emigration allowance having increased to R4-million (per individual of 18+) or R8-million (per family unit), there is more capacity to expatriate before the 10 percent exit penalty comes into play (i.e. exit penalties apply to any amount in excess of R4-million or R8-million respectively).

But these are merely numbers and facts, the difference between hanging in and leaving lock stock and barrel can never be financially quantified without a crystal ball. It is for this reason that this will too have to fall into the ever increasing 'practical' questions you are going to have to answer for yourself in your own time.

All the best.
